Iran, Russia Weigh Plans for Promotion of Parliamentary Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior lawmakers from Iran and Russia discussed ways to enhance parliamentary interaction to pave the way for closer economic and trade ties between the two countries.

In a telephone conversation with Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin on Monday, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stressed the need to hold the meetings of joint parliamentary commissions between the two countries, including the economic commission.

He also expressed the Iranian Parliament’s support for economic and trade cooperation with Russia, saying the legislatures play a major role in facilitating and accelerating the political, economic and cultural cooperation between the governments.

For his part, Volodin called for the promotion of parliamentary cooperation with Iran at various levels.

The relations between Moscow and Tehran are based on mutual respect, he added, noting that Russian lawmakers try to strengthen interaction and help carry out the agreements with Iran.
