COVID Daily Death Toll in Iran Down to 2-Digit Number after 234 Days

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The daily death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran stood at below 100 on Monday for the first time after nearly eight months.

The Iranian Health Ministry put the total deaths from COVID-19 in the country at 129,053 on Monday, saying the disease has taken the lives of 97 patients over the past 24 hours, the lowest toll in 234 days.

Over the past 24 hours, 5,427 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 840 of them hospitalized, the ministry added.

More than 5,795,000 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,082,800 ones who have contracted the disease, it said.

Some 3,393 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it added.

The ministry also said that more than 56.83 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 45.11 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 257 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.17 million.
