Iran Urges Formulation of Road Map to Cooperation with Uzbekistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran proposed the idea of devising a road map to cooperation with Uzbekistan in order to accelerate the growth of relations in various fields.
Hossein Amirabdollahian held a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov on the sidelines of the 15th ECO Summit in Turkmenistan on Saturday.
Elaborating on Iran-Uzbekistan relations in the political, cultural and economic fields, the Iranian foreign minister welcomed the proposal on drawing a road map to mutual cooperation.
Describing a meeting between the Iranian and Uzbek presidents in Ashgabat as a turning point in developing cooperation, Amirabdollahian offered Iran’s readiness to work with Uzbekistan in water management, transportation, and transit fields.
The other topics discussed in the meeting included the situation in Afghanistan, the Afghan refugees, Iran's efforts to establish an inclusive government in Afghanistan, the results of talks with counterparts from the other countries in this regard, Iran's views regarding the Vienna talks to lift the US' cruel and unilateral sanctions, Iran's seriousness to reach a good and immediate agreement, Tehran’s distrust of the United States, and Iran's close cooperation with the IAEA,
For his part, Kamilov expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to hold the joint commission meeting with Iran, stressing the necessity of promoting relations.
He also hailed the views of Uzbekistan and Iran about Afghanistan, stressing the significance of both countries’ cooperation with the other regional states.
