Iranian Parliament Speaker Calls for Finalization of Strategic Agreements with Turkey

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed hope for finalization of strategic agreements, during a meeting with Mustafa Şentop, the speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on Friday.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, expressed hope that in the near future, the strategic agreements between the two countries will be finalized.

“Undoubtedly, the two neighboring countries of Iran and Turkey can play an effective and positive role in regional and international developments through close cooperation,” said Ghalibaf, who arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday evening to participate in the meeting of the 16th Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference.

For his part, Şentop said that Turkey is also determined to develop the relations between the two countries in the framework of parliamentary relations, while reminding that Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to visit Tehran to promote bilateral relations between two countries, DogruHaber reported.

He also stated that parliamentary friendship groups of the two countries should become more active.

In a separate meeting with Turkish CEOs and investors on Thursday night on the sidelines of the meeting of The Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Countries (PUIC) in Istanbul, Ghalibaf also stressed that Iran's legislature and government prioritized expanding ties with neighboring countries.

On their parts, Turkey's CEOs and businessmen discussed challenges and problems in their trade with Iran, as well as proposing for increasing investment in the country.

Iranian speaker underscored that the parliament and government of Islamic republic are serious about strengthening trade links with neighboring nations, adding that they want to continue bilateral trade with those countries even when sanctions against Iran are lifted.

Ghalibaf also stated that various policies in Iran's Seventh Development Plan had been incorporated to assist the expansion of economic links, advising Turkish businesspeople to pursue their concerns through parliamentary friendship groups.
