Civilians, Kids Killed in Saudi Airstrike against Yemeni Capital
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Saudi-led coalition launched an air raid on the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, that killed civilians, among them children.
Initial reports from the attack suggested that at least five civilians were killed and five others injured after the Saudi coalition targeted the Mae'en district in Yemeni capital city of Sana'a, Almasirah reported citing a correspondent in the area.
The rescue teams are still working to recover the injured from the debris and search for other victims from a house that was targeted by the Saudi coalition.
Saudi state media said that the Monday raid against the Yemeni residential neighborhood was carried out by the coalition’s F-15 fighters, claiming that it had destroyed two ballistic missile launchers, allegedly used in the strike against the UAE.
The spokesman for Yemen’s army Yahya Saree said on Monday that the country, used five “ballistic and winged missiles” and “a large number of drones” to target “a number of important and sensitive Emirati sites and facilities,” including the airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the oil refinery in Mussafah.
Saree added that the “successful” operation was “in retaliation to the escalation of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression” and that UAE will remain an “unsafe state as long as its aggressive escalation against Yemen continues.”
The Yemeni general also said that the country’s armed forces, “while implementing what they promised, renew their warning to the countries of aggression that they will receive more painful strikes”.
The spoksman warned that "foreigners should stay away" from the UAE’s vital sites and facilities for their own safety.
“The UAE will be an unsafe state as long as its aggressive escalation against Yemen continues,” the general concluded.
On Monday morning, the Yemeni army launched a drone operation inside the UAE after the country’s military warned against Abu Dhabi’s escalation of war in Yemen a week earlier.
Later the day, Abu Dhabi confirmed the attack and said that a drone attack caused an explosion involving three oil tankers in Abu Dhabi and a fire in the construction site of the Emirate’s new airport extension.
The Yemeni military conducts regular retaliatory attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia over its devastating war on Yemen. But its recent attack against the UAE, which is fighting alongside Saudi Arabia, has been rare.
Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing popular Ansarullah resistance movement.
The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases.
Yemeni armed forces and allied Popular Committees, however, have grown steadily in strength against the Saudi-led invaders, and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.
