TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed the country’s readiness to broaden relations with India in various areas and open a “new chapter” in mutual cooperation.

In separate messages to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, Raisi congratulated the Indian government and people on the Republic Day, a national holiday marking the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950.

In the message to his Indian counterpart, the Iranian president hailed the outstanding relations between the two countries, as two old civilizations in Asia with rich cultures.

Expressing confidence that Iran and India will open a new chapter in their cooperation, Raisi said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has the necessary determination and readiness to expand and deepen the relations with India in all fields.”

In the message to Modi, Raisi expressed hope for the enhancement of cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi in light of their cultural and civilizational commonalities and age-old relations.

In a meeting with Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Tehran in July 2021, Raisi said the top priorities in the country’s cooperation with India are ensuring collective security with the participation of all regional countries as well as extensive economic interaction.
