Balance in Commitment to JCPOA Distant: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said a necessary balance in the commitments of the parties to the JCPOA is still far from reach although the talks on the revival of the deal have made progress, reminding the US that it ought to make political decisions.

“Despite limited progress in the Vienna Talks, we are still far from achieving the necessary balance in the commitments of the parties,” Ali Shamkhani said in a post on his Twitter account on Sunday.

“Political decisions in Washington are requirements for balance of commitments to reach a good agreement,” he underlined.

In another tweet on Saturday, Shamkhani made it clear that “real, effective and verifiable economic benefit for Iran” is the necessary prerequisite for the formation of an agreement in the ongoing talks in Vienna.

“Show of lifting sanctions is not considered constructive,” the top security official noted.

In comments on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian called on the US to show its goodwill in an actual manner in the course of talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, noting that what remains on paper about the removal of the sanctions does not suffice at all.

In Iran’s view, actual goodwill comes with something real happening on the ground, he added, noting that Americans can display their goodwill by lifting part of the sanctions in a practical and palpable manner.
