Esteghlal Seals IPL Title with Three Matches to Spare

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal football team won the title of the Iran Professional League (IPL) Saturday night with three matches to spare.

Farhad Majidi’s team defeated Foolad 2-1 in its away match and seized the title with 63 points.

Amir Hossein Hosseinzadeh found the back of the net in the 53rd minute and Saleh Hardani made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute.

Alireza Koushki scored a consolation goal in the injury time.

It is Esteghlal’s first title since the 2012-13 season.

Sepahan defeated archrival Persepolis 2-1 in Sirjan. Mohammad Nejadmahdi scored Sepahan’s first goal in the 36th minute and Sajjad Shahbazzadeh doubled the scoreboard in the 48th minute.

With seven minutes remaining, Persepolis defender Ali Nemati halved the deficit.
