Iran’s Foreign Ministry Sympathizes with Afghans over Quake Deaths

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry offered deep sympathy to Afghanistan for the loss of lives in an earthquake that struck the neighboring country’s eastern regions on Wednesday morning.

In a statement on Wednesday, Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed condolences to the “friendly and brotherly” Afghan nation on the human losses and damages in the quake that rocked remote parts of eastern Afghanistan.

He also voiced Iran’s readiness to provide assistance to the Afghan people affected by the earthquake.

The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Afghanistan has climbed to 920, with more than 600 others wounded, as rescuers try to reach the site of the disaster in remote Paktika and Khost provinces.

Authorities are reporting hundreds of houses have been destroyed in the region.
