Concrete Placement Starts at 2nd Unit of Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Plant

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran started the operation to place concrete into the walls of the reactor of the second unit of a nuclear power plant near its southern port city of Bushehr on Friday.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami visited the Bushehr nuclear power plant on Friday evening to observe the beginning of the operation for concrete placement into the walls of the reactor of the second unit.

Stressing the need to remove the obstacles to the construction work at the second and third units of the Bushehr nuclear plant, Eslami said the construction activities at the two sites are 28 months behind schedule.

Considering the removal of restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the allocation of new financing for the project, the construction work in the 2nd and 3rd units of the nuclear power plant is expected to run smoothly, he added.

In November 2014, the Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD) and Russia’s Atomstroiexport signed two contracts to work on parts of the 2nd and 3rd units.

A total of $10 billion has been allocated for the construction of the two units.

The capacity of the second phase is expected to stand above 1,000 megawatts (MW). The total capacity of the two units of WWER-1,000 (Water-Water Energetic Reactor) will be 2,100 megawatts.
