Iran Has No Demand beyond JCPOA: FM

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart in Tehran on Wednesday, Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed gratitude to Doha for hosting last week’s indirect talks between Iran and the US, mediated by the EU, for the purpose of revival of the JCPOA.

Reaffirming Iran’s resolve to strike a good and durable agreement, the foreign minister said that contrary to the US media stories, the Islamic Republic has not raised any excessive demand beyond the JCPOA. “Our demands fall within the framework of the 2015 deal.”  

He said the most recent round of talks held in Doha revolved around the effective American guarantees that Iran will enjoy the economic benefits of the JCPOA.

When it comes to the guarantees, the US must ensure that Iran will benefit from the 2015 nuclear deal, Amirabdollahian stated, noting that the US, however, has failed to give Iran assurances so far.

For his part, the Qatari foreign minister said it is necessary for all parties and neighboring states to make constructive efforts for the success of the Iran nuclear talks.

Voicing Qatar’s support for dialogue and the achievement of a deal that would allay the concerns of all sides, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stressed the need to pave the way for all parties to the JCPOA to resume honoring their commitments.

He added that negotiations between Iran and the Persian Gulf countries would yield positive results, as prosperous relations among the regional government will serve the interests of nations.

The foreign minister of Qatar is in Tehran a few days after Iran and the US concluded two days of indirect talks, mediated by the European Union, in Doha, in an attempt to break the stalemate in reviving the JCPOA.

At the end of the talks, Iran and the EU said they would keep in touch “about the continuation of the route and the next stage of the talks.”

The talks in Doha followed seven rounds of fruitless negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna since April last year.
