Iranian Diplomat, UN Envoy Discuss Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Asghar Khajj, the Iranian foreign minister's senior adviser for special political affairs, and Hans Grundberg, the UN chief’s special envoy for Yemen exchanged views about the situation in Yemen, with Khaji reiterating Iran’s support for the peaceful resolution of the crisis.

In their talks, Grundberg pointed to the latest proposals given to Yemeni sides and said the two-month extension of the ceasefire there provides an opportunity to come up with a regular mechanism to pay salaries of employees, to open roads between provinces, to add flight destinations from and to Sana'a, to guarantee the smooth flow of fuel to the port of Hudaydah and also to create military, economic and political committees with the aim of monitoring the implementation of the truce deal.

Khaji reaffirmed Iran's support for continued efforts to establish a lasting and just peace in Yemen. He also expressed hope that during the 2-month ceasefire ahead, efforts will be made to achieve a comprehensive deal including a lasting truce, the full removal of the siege and the economic blockade on Yemen, payment of the salaries of employees, freedom of movement on all roads in Yemen, the start of the work of the military, economic and political committees, and the creation of inclusive monitoring mechanisms to prevent violation of commitments under the agreement.
