Atomic Military Program Has No Place in Iran’s Defense Doctrine: Nuclear Chief
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami underscored that the county feels no need to a military atomic program.
“An atomic bomb has no place either in our defense doctrine or in our ideological beliefs,” he reiterated in an interview with Al-Alam TV network.
Eslami also said that the Islamic Republic remains committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Elsewhere in the interview, he said that based on the law (passed by the Parliament), the AEOI ought to boost the country’s uranium enrichment capacity with an emphasis on using advanced IR6 centrifuge machines to 190,000 SWUs.
Eslami also said that thanks to the vigilance and the security measures adopted, acts of sabotage against the country’s nuclear sites have been foiled.
Throughout the years, Iran has repeated ad infinitum that its nuclear program is for purely peaceful purposes and that it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has even issued a fatwa (religious decree) declaring that the acquisition, development, and use of nuclear weapons violate Islamic principles and are therefore forbidden.
Iranian officials have also stressed that the country’s right to research into peaceful nuclear activities would not be subject to the will or views of others.
