Iran Summons French Charge D’Affaires

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned France’s charge d’affaires in protest at an interfering statement from the French Foreign Ministry, the participation of three French secretaries of state in anti-Iranian protests, and an insulting cartoon published by the Charlie Hebdo magazine.

In the absence of the ambassador of France to Tehran, the European country’s charge d’affaires was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran on Wednesday in protest at an interfering statement from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, the participation of three French secretaries of state in anti-Iran protests in Paris, and an insulting cartoon published by Charlie Hebdo.

The envoy was reminded by the Iranian Foreign Ministry that the Islamic Republic categorically condemns and rejects the French Foreign Ministry and officials’ interference in the domestic affairs of Iran with the use of fake interpretations.

The charge d’affaires was also told that the statement released by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France has sought to exonerate rioters whose purpose was only vandalism and jeopardizing the lives and properties of people in Iran.

In the meeting with the French diplomat, the head of the second department on Western Europe at the Iranian Foreign Ministry blamed the French officials for playing a double-standard game, noting that France, on the one hand, hosts the notorious groups that have had a direct role in fomenting riots in Iran for years, and, on the other hand, condemns the Iranian law enforcement forces for acting against the very same rioters.

The French authorities must have forgotten how the French police have treated the Yellow Vests protesters who had disrupted order and security in that country, the Iranian diplomat added.

In response to a part of the statement from the French Foreign Ministry declaring that France, the European Union and other allies would consider all possible options to deal with the recent developments in Iran, the Iranian diplomat made it clear that under no circumstances will the Islamic Republic tolerate any interference in its internal affairs, adding that Iran will consider a proportional and timely measure by carefully monitoring the stances and movements of the outsiders.
