India Scrambles Fighter Jets After Receiving Report of Bomb Scare on Iran-China Flight

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - India scrambled fighter jets after receiving information of a bomb scare on an Iranian passenger jet transiting through Indian airspace, the India's Air Force (IAF) said on Monday.

The aircraft was given the option to land at two airports in north-western India as the jets followed it at a safe distance.

The air force asserted that it later received information from Tehran, the capital of Iran, telling it to disregard the bomb scare and let the flight proceed.

The Indian the Air Force said in a statement that the fighter jets followed the aircraft at a safe distance. The aircraft has now entered the Chinese airspace, showed flight tracking website Flightradar.

A call regarding the bomb threat on the flight was received at 9:20 am, said the Indian police. The Delhi airport was subsequently put on alert, NDTV reported.

"The aircraft was offered the option to land at Jaipur and then, at Chandigarh. However, the pilot declared his unwillingness to divert to either of the two airports," said the Indian Air Force.
