FM Praises Qatar for Hosting Iran’s National Football Team in World Cup

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting the Iranian national football team in the FIFA World Cup games.

In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed the latest developments in the relations between Tehran and Doha, especially following the meetings between the high-ranking officials of the two countries, as well as Qatar’s successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Extending greetings from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the emir of Qatar, Amirabdollahian congratulated the Arab country’s government and people on their successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

The Iranian foreign minister also thanked Qatar for its assistance regarding the presence of the fans of the Iranian National Team (Team Melli) and sports enthusiasts at the matches.

The Qatari foreign minister, for his part, extended greetings from his country’s emir to Iran’s high-ranking officials.

He also hailed the Iranian football team for its performance on the pitch and thanked Iran for its active support and cooperation with Doha during the FIFA World Cup matches, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Iran’s FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign came to an end on Tuesday as Carlos Queiroz’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the US at the Al Thumama Stadium.

Iran lost to England 6-2 in its opener and defeated Wales 2-0 in the second match.
