Iran, Russia to Sign Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Moscow unveiled plans for a long-term comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Islamic Republic and the Russian Federation.

In comments at an event in the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kazem Jalali said Tehran and Moscow will soon sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement.

The ambassador did not indicate the place and date of signing the deal, Sputnik reported.

"We will sign a long-term comprehensive agreement on relations not so far away," Jalali said.

At present, an agreement on the foundations of relations and principles of cooperation, signed in Moscow back in 2001, is in force between Russia and Iran.

The contract that was concluded for a period of ten years is renewed automatically every five years, unless one of the parties to the contract notifies the other in writing at least one year before the expiration of the relevant period of its intention to terminate it.
