Belgium Offers Relief Aid to Iran after Quake in Khoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib expressed her country’s readiness to provide assistance to Iranian citizens affected by a recent earthquake in the northwestern city of Khoy.

In a telephone conversation on Monday, Lahbib and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian talked about a series of issues of mutual interest and the latest regional and international developments.

Offering condolences to Iran over the casualties in the recent earthquake that rocked Khoy in Iran’s northwestern province of West Azarbaijan, the Belgian foreign minister expressed her country’s readiness to send relief supplies to the quake-hit areas.

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Khoy on Saturday night, killing three people, injuring nearly 1,000 others, and forcing the residents to spend the nights outside their damaged houses.

Elsewhere in the telephone conversation, the two foreign ministers discussed the consular cooperation between Iran and Belgium, hoping for the expansion of ties with joint efforts and interaction.
