Former Iran Coach Blazevic Dies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Iran coach Miroslav “Ciro” Blazevic died at the age of 87 on Wednesday.

His family and friends said Blazevic died at a Zagreb hospital after a long battle with prostate cancer.

The “coach of all coaches,” as he was known in his home country of Croatia, led four national teams and several domestic and foreign clubs during his career.

Blazevic also led Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland. Among the clubs he coached were Dinamo Zagreb, Nantes, Grasshopper Zurich, Sion, Shanghai Shenhua, PAOK Thessaloniki and Hajduk Split.

He was appointed as Iran coach midway through the 2002 World Cup qualification process.

Iran failed to book a place in the Finals after losing to Ireland Republic 2-1 on aggregate.

The defeat marked the end of Blazevictime in Iran as his assistant Branko Ivankovic took over.
