Russia Hail Normalization of Ties Between Iran-Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Russia's permanent envoy to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, praised the recent normalization of ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia, calling it an important step towards regional stability.

"The improvement of relations between #Iran and #SaudiArabia is of strategic importance for the region and a wider area," Ulyanov tweeted on Monday.

On Sunday, the EU Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell also welcomed the Iran-Saudi Arabia agreement, saying in a press conference in Brussels, "We have seen recently Saudi Arabia and Iran normalising their relations. This will add more stability to the region."

On March 10, after days of intensive talks in Beijing, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume their diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies and diplomatic missions within at most two months.

The rapprochement between the two regional heavyweights has been eagerly welcomed by Arab governments neighboring Iran.

The agreement which was mediated by China and has been interpreted as a blow to US influence in the Persian Gulf.
