Iran Ready to Contribute to Resolution of Ukraine Crisis: FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said the country is ready to contribute to the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.

Amirabdollahian and his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis held talks on the phone over the most important bilateral, regional and international issues.

He thanked the top Swiss diplomat for congratulating him on Nowruz and the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. He pointed to the good and historical ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Swiss Confederation, announcing Tehran’s readiness for holding a third session of the joint commission of the two countries.

While appreciating Switzerland’s efforts as the protector of Iran’s interests in Saudi Arabia, Amirabdollahian spoke about the latest developments in relations between Tehran and Riyadh.

He said Iran is prepared to hold a meeting with the Saudi side on the date already set in order to reopen embassies of the two countries, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website.

The Iranian foreign minister spoke about the principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the necessity of preserving the territorial integrity of countries including Ukraine, noting that Tehran is opposed to the continuation of the war. Hence, he added, Iran is ready to provide any assistance in order to swiftly resolve the crisis.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis for his part congratulated the Iranian government and people on Nowruz and the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. He stressed that the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia on resumption of their diplomatic ties is a turning point in regional peace and stability.

Cassis also described ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Switzerland as positive and expressed pleasure with the successful holding of political consultations between the two countries. He appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy of helping establish peace in Ukraine.
