Iran Condemns Mosque Attack in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned a fatal terrorist attack on the Nabawi Mosque in Badakhshan in northern Afghanistan.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani has condemned the terrorist attack that killed at least 11 people in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan, on Thursday.

The spokesman underlined that the blind and terrorist attacks against the ordinary people and civilians, particularly in the religious sites, have nothing to do with the teachings of Islam and are totally condemned.

The Thursday’s explosion near Nabawi Mosque in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan, killed at least 11 people at a memorial service for a provincial deputy governor of the Taliban.

A former Taliban police official was among those killed and more than 30 others were wounded in the attack.

The explosion happened during the memorial service for Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, the deputy governor of Badakhshan who was killed in a car bombing on Tuesday.

Moazuddin Ahmadi, the Taliban official in charge of information and culture, said Safiullah Samim, a former Taliban police chief in Baghlan, was killed in Thursday’s blast.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The ISIL (ISIS) terrorist group had claimed responsibility for the car bombing on Tuesday.
