Iran, Tajikistan Emphasize Closer Judicial Cooperation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The prosecutors general of Iran and Tajikistan stressed the need to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the judicial field.
Heading a high-ranking judicial delegation, Iran’s Prosecutor General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri arrived in Dushanbe on Thursday to discuss bilateral ties and the issues of mutual interest.
In a meeting, the Iranian prosecutor general and his Tajik counterpart Yusuf Rahmon weighed plans to strengthen judicial cooperation between the two countries.
They also discussed plans for legal assistance in the criminal cases, the extradition of convicts, the joint effort to fight against crimes, and the exchange of information in countering international terrorism and extremism.
Iran and Tajikistan inked a memorandum of understanding in February 2022 which consisted of 12 clauses, valid for five years.
The MoU entails cooperation regarding the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of criminals, cooperation in fighting crimes, exchange of experiences and data regarding issues of mutual interest and criminal procedures, consultation for legal cooperation, preparation and review of special requests for extradition, mutual legal assistance in criminal issues, and the exchange of information about the legal systems and internal laws of the two states.
