Candidate: Next Syrian President to Maintain Resistance

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) - Hassan Abdullah al-Nuri, one of the three presidential candidates in Syria, underlined that whoever wins the forthcoming votes, the “resistance” against foreign-backed terrorism will definitely go on.

“Whoever from the three candidates wins, the resistance approach will continue,” Nuri told the Tasnim News Agency in an exclusive interview on Saturday.

“Winner of the competition (the polls) is the nation that will withstand the world bullies,” he stressed.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. Terrorists from many countries have flocked into the crisis-torn country to topple President Assad’s legitimate government.

The war has killed more than 162,000 people, a watchdog estimates, and caused a terrible economic crisis suffered worst by millions of people trapped in sieges across the country.

Nuri is one of three candidates, including incumbent president Bashar al-Assad and Maher al-Hajjar, standing for the presidency in presidential elections on June 3.

Nuri, who has a PhD degree from a US university in management, has announced earlier that his election platform focuses on economic reform and battling corruption.

He used to serve as the minister of administrative development from 2000 to 2002.
