Iranian President Meets with Brunei's King, Senegalese President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Friday held separate meetings with Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and President of Senegal Macky Sall as part of his consultations with leaders of Muslim states attending the recent Organization of Islamic Cooperation Summit in Turkey.

During the meeting with Sultan Bolkiah held on the sidelines of the OIC Summit in Istanbul, Rouhani hailed the potentials for Tehran and Bandar Seri Begawan to have good cooperation in different fields including technical and engineering services, energy, petro-chemistry, and the settlement of regional and international issues, including the fight against extremism.

“The expansion of Iran-Brunei ties can have an effective role in the establishment of closer ties between Tehran and ASEAN (southeast Asian) countries,” Rouhani went on to say.

Bolkiah, for his part, underlined the various fields in which the two countries can develop their cooperation, and called for enhancement of all-out ties with the Islamic Republic.

He further referred to extremism and terrorism as a common challenge for all Muslim states, adding, “We should improve our cooperation in the field of fight against terrorism and extremism so as to introduce the true image of Islam to the world.”

Rouhani also held a meeting with his Senegalese counterpart, during which he expressed Tehran’s willingness to reinforce its all-out relations with African countries.

“We are ready to promote our relations with Senegal in different economic, scientific, cultural, medical, and health fields,” the Iranian president said.

He also regretted the spread of terrorism and violence in the Muslim world, stressing that Iran has always assisted the countries that asked for its help in the fight against terrorism, while a serious and comprehensive cooperation is needed to defeat terrorists.

Sall, for his part, hailed Iran as a powerful country with a great culture and civilization, and called for improved cooperation between the two countries.

“Terrorist groups have nothing to do with Islam,” he underscored, expressing Dakar’s preparedness to work with Iran in the fight against violence and extremism.
