Iran Wins 3 Golds in Taekwondo Junior World Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's athletes claimed three more gold medals at the World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Tunisia on Thursday.

Hamed Asghari Mahiabadi, the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games gold medalist, extended the Iranian run of success with victory in the junior men’s over-59 kilograms category.

He was fully in control of his final against Turkey’s Arslan Demir, eventually earning a 29-2 result.

Young-Jun Lee of Korea and Gabriel Ramos of Brazil claimed the bronze medals.

Mahdi Mohammad Emadi and Ali Eshkevarian also earned two gold medals for Iran.

The men’s under-68kg final saw Emadi overcome CJ Nickolas of the United States in impressive fashion as he earned an 18-10 victory.

Dusan Bozanic of Serbia and Ivan Paulouski of Belarus claimed the bronze medals on offer.

The final gold of the day in the men’s under-73kg went to Iran as Eshkevarian beat Poland’s Adrian Wojtkowiak 26-6.

Badr Achab of Belgium and Vladyslav Yerko of Ukraine won the bronze in that weight class.

Iranian taekwondo practitioners had already won three gold medals in the men's under 45kg , under 51 kg, and under 55kg classes.

The 2018 World Taekwondo Junior Championships were held from April 6-13 in Hammamet, Tunisia, bringing together 438 athletes from 11 countries who competed in 10 weight categories.
