Iran’s Momenzadeh Takes Silver at World Taekwondo Championships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mahla Momenzadeh won a silver medal at the Manchester 2019 World Taekwondo Championships on Thursday.

Momenzadeh defeated Ainur Uashpay from Kazakhstan 21-1 in Round of 64 and then earned a 17-7 win over Briton Jordyn Smith in Round of 32.

Momenzadeh defeated Russian Galina Medvedeva (23-3), Croatian Lena Stojkovic (30-20) and Chinese Tan Xueqin (11-9) respectively to book a place in the final match.

She lost to South Korean Sim Jae-young in the women’s -46kg final match.

A record 927 athletes from 145 countries plus 1 refugee team are registered to compete at this year’s Championships making it the largest by numbers in the sport’s history.
