UK, US Disagree on Several Issues, Including JCPOA, Hunt Says
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Britain's Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the UK disagrees with the US President on several issues, including the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
Moments after he greeted Donald Trump on the tarmac at Stansted Airport, Hunt told CNN it is "not a surprise we have areas where (we) disagree.”
He added, “We do not agree on several issues, including climate change, the Iranian nuclear deal, and we have disagreed in past on the NHS."
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA.
The accord took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered mainly due to US policies and its eventual withdrawal from the deal.
In May 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.
Following the US withdrawal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
The European Union has vowed to counter Trump’s renewed sanctions on Iran, including by means of a new law to shield European companies from punitive measures.
