World Cadet Taekwondo C’ships: Iran Increase Gold Tally

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran increased its gold medal tally to five after two more of their athletes won gold at the World Cadet Taekwondo Championships on Friday.

Sanaz Abbaspour Fazlabad claimed a stoppage win over Kazakhstan's Aisha Adilbekkyzy when leading the women's under-44kg final 25-2.

Belgium's Sarah Chaari and Spain's Elsa Hernandez Vazquez claimed bronze medals.

Pouneh Jafar Salehi then beat South Korea's Kim Jiyeon 21-1 in the women’s under-55kg gold medal match.

Rounding out the podium were Vitaliya Lazuta of Belarus and Chinese Taipei's Yao Pei-Yu.

There was also disappointment for Iran, with Amirhossein Norouzi and Setayesh Ghahremani Mahid suffering losses in the finals of the men's under-41kg and women's under-59kg categories, respectively.

Norouzi lost 31-11 against Uzbekistan's Zafarbek Karimov, while Ghahremani Mahid fell to a 14-13 defeat at the hands of American Ava Lee.

Chinese Taipei's Chan Tzu-I and Haiti's Ryan Martine secured the men's under-41kg bronze medals.

The women's under-59kg bronze medals went to Russia's Daria Kulakovskaia and Spain's Neus Valbuena Sánchez.

On opening day of the competition, Mobina Nematzadeh defeated South Korea’s Kim Gahyeon 24-4 in the women’s under-51kg final.

Zahra Zarin Naal Sheikhani beat Thailand's Pacharaporn Sukhamon 39-28 in the women's under-41 kilograms final and Mobina Bakhshi defeated Colombia's Natalia Andrea Mendivelso 15-14 in the women’s under-47kg gold medal match on day two.

The competition has brought 550 athletes, aged from 12 to 14, from 64 countries together.
