Iranian Diplomat in Turkey for Talks on Nagorno-Karabakh War
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi traveled to Ankara in a tour that took him earlier to Baku, Moscow and Yerevan for talks on an initiative developed by Iran for the settlement of disputes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
The ranking Iranian diplomat arrived in Ankara on Friday evening.
Araqchi has outlined Iran’s proposed regional solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in meetings with the Azeri, Russian and Armenian officials.
In an interview with Ria Novosti during his stay in Moscow, Araqchi said three rounds of ceasefire have been established in the Nagorno-Karabakh region so far, but of no avail.
Iran's initiative takes the ceasefire to the second stage, as it first emphasizes a set of principles and calls on the countries involved to prove their commitment, show it in practice, and respect it, he said.
These principles include internationally accepted principles, as well as a series of specific ones related to the crisis, including an end to occupation, respect for territorial integrity, respect for sovereignty, the principle of unchangeable borders, respect for the rights of minorities, respect for humanitarian rights, and the return of refugees, Araqchi said.
