Iran Launches New Plan to Tackle COVID-19

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The fourth stage of a nationwide health program kicked off in Iran on Tuesday to break the chain of transmission of the coronavirus with extensive screening activities and early detection.

A Health Ministry official said on Tuesday that the fourth stage of the ‘National Mobilization for Fighting Coronavirus’ is oriented around neighborhoods and households.

A total of 179 million screenings for the coronavirus infection were carried out in three separate countrywide programs until October 31, Jafar Sadeq Tabrizi said.

He also noted that the new scheme that was launched today focuses on managing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic with a strategy oriented to neighborhoods and families.

People are being screened for infection in the new initiative, the virus carriers are detected, those in close contact with the patients are identified and monitored, and those with the symptoms of illness would be tested at home with rapid test kits, the official explained.

Sadeq Tabrizi added that special house healthcare teams have also been organized to take care of the people who have to stay home.

He went on to say that the 4th stage of the health mobilization scheme is carried out in cooperation with people, the Basij forces, the Red Crescent Society of Iran, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, and the non-governmental organizations.

The daily number of Iranian people who have tested positive for the coronavirus infection hit a new record on Monday with over 10,000 patients detected.

The total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 690,000 and the death toll is about to hit 39,000.
