Israel Main Obstacle to Regional Security: Iranian Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf denounced the Zionist regime as the source of insecurity and instability in the region.

In a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Tehran on Monday, Qalibaf slammed the terrorist Israeli regime's efforts to normalize ties with Muslim states, saying the region will not experience sustainable security with the presence of the Zionist regime.

Lauding the growing brotherly ties between Iran and Syria, Qalibaf said the bilateral relations should be upgraded through dialogue and consultations between officials of the two countries.

The enemies of Iran and Syria are opposed to the independence, dignity and progress of Islamic countries, Qalibaf added, warning that the Zionist regime seeks to normalize relations with Islamic countries with the supports from the US.

The Islamic community must counter the process of normalization of ties with Israel, the Parliament speaker added.

The Syrian foreign minister, for his part, offered condolences over the assassination of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, saying it shows the true face of the Zionist regime and the US as supporters of terrorism.

On the election of Joe Biden as the new US president, Mekdad said the nature of the US government does not change in various administrations, noting that the US presence in different parts of the world has always resulted in insecurity and instability.
