Some 8,000 New Coronavirus Cases Detected in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nearly 8,000 Iranians have tested positive for the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

The Health Ministry’s spokeswoman announced at a press conference on Saturday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has exceeded 1,623,000 after the detection of 7,975 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new patients detected in the past 24 hours, 418 have been admitted to the hospital, Sima Sadat Lari added.

At least 1,386,534 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 59,980, saying the disease has taken the lives of 81 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,729 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 114 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.5 million.
