TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 300 coronavirus patients in Iran died in the past 24 hours as a new wave of pandemic has forced the authorities to enforce a partial lockdown in major cities.

The Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said at a press conference on Wednesday that 304 coronavirus patients have died across the country over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 65,359.

Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has exceeded 2,143,000 following the detection of 25,582 new cases since yesterday, adding that 3,098 new cases have been admitted to the hospital.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,539 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She also said 361,951 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine in Iran so far, less than 0.5 percent of the population.
