One Dead, One Injured after Shooting at Nebraska Mall

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – One person died and another was injured Saturday during a shooting in Omaha, US state of Nebraska, the Omaha Police Department said in a statement.

Shots rang out at the Westroads Mall near J.C. Penney around noon Saturday, the Omaha Police Department said in a tweet following the incident, The Hill reported.

An adult male victim was taken to the CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The other victim, an adult female, was treated for a non-life-threatening injury at Immanuel Hospital, police confirmed.

Shooting Incident at Westroads Mall. One victim was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Suspects fled the scene and are at large. OPD is searching the entire mall as a precaution. Please avoid the area. A press release will be sent later with more information.

Police noted the incident was not random, and the victims' identities will be released at a later time.

Police did not provide a description of the suspects, who they said are still at large.

The shooting, one of many across the US in recent weeks, comes just days after Nebraska Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts declared his state a "Second Amendment Sanctuary State."

The Wednesday proclamation signaled Nebraska's support for gun rights.

"The White House and US Congress have announced their intention to pursue measures that would infringe on the right to keep and bear arms," Ricketts wrote on Twitter. "Nebraska will stand up against federal overreach and attempts to regulate gun ownership and use in the Good Life."
