Students’ Union Urges European Law Professors to Address Inhumane Detention of Iranian Prisoner in Sweden

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Union for the Islamic Associations of Independent Students (UIAIS) in Iran has issued a letter addressed to elite law professors at prominent European universities, expressing concern over the inhumane treatment of Mr. Hamid Nouri, an Iranian citizen held hostage in Sweden.

The letter, signed by the Union's representatives and members, highlights the recent release of Mr. Asadollah Asadi, the former Third Secretary of the Islamic Republic's Embassy in Vienna, who was unlawfully detained by the Belgian government for five years.

Mr. Asadi's imprisonment was part of a plot orchestrated by the terrorist cult of MKO, with collaboration from Zionist elements and regional intelligence agencies, according to the letter.

The full content of the letter is as follows:

In the name of God, the Beneficent the Merciful

Five years ago, the Third Secretary of the Islamic Republic's Embassy in Vienna, Mr. Asadollah Asadi, was illegally arrested in Germany and taken hostage by the Belgian government as part of a plot by the terrorist cult of MKO, in coordination with the Zionists and some of the regional intelligence agencies.

Thanks to the Iranian officials' continuous efforts, especially in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the brotherly mediation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, Mr. Asadi was released from the Belgian prison a few days ago. However, during this 1789-day illegal arrest, which is officially in violation of international laws, Belgium – despite its claims to protect human rights as enshrined in its constitution, not only failed to uphold Mr. Asadi's fundamental rights but also as exploitation for political objectives, subjected him to physical and mental torture during his captivity, including 100 days in a facility meant for the mentally ill, 28 days naked in a bunker filled with water and 90 days in solitary confinement in a windowless cell.

Even though Mr. Asadi's release was a moment of celebration for many in our country, we are still worried about the fate of another Iranian citizen imprisoned by yet another European state; Mr. Hamid Nouri, who has been under arrest in Sweden for four years in a politically-motivated move orchestrated by murderers of 17,000 Iranians, the MKO terrorist group. Mr. Nouri is under severe torture, to the point that his eyesight has decreased significantly, his hearing is impaired, and despite all this, he is denied a doctor.

It is ridiculous how laws and human rights can be neglected for a few cultist terrorists to propagate hate speech against Iran and frame our citizens up. Sweden and other countries that close their eyes on terrorist activities on their soil should remember that there is a consequence to our every move. When you let murderers and terrorists take refuge in your country and enjoy almost unlimited latitude, soon you find yourself surrounded by problems that follow because there is no good or bad terrorist. As the Buddhists believe, karma has universal jurisdiction.

European nations must remain cognizant of malicious intervention by notorious actors with the aim of reducing bilateral relations even further and call on their governments to attend to any allegation according to international regulations.

Finally, as members of the Unions of Islamic Student Associations and representatives of thousands of university students across Iran, we demand that Sweden end Mr. Nouri's sham trial and that his fundamental rights must be provided until his fate is decided in an impartial and unbiased court, where he can have access to his lawyer and defend himself against fabricated evidence and testimonies.
