Oman Proposes Initiatives for JCPOA Revival: Iran’s FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Oman has presented some initiatives for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Speaking to ICANA on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian referred to a meeting in Tehran with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Hamad al-Busaidi and said the Sultanate of Oman is making efforts to bring the views of all sides closer together with the aim of preparing the ground for all parties to return to their commitments under the JCPOA.

“Initiatives were also offered in this regard by Oman which we discussed (at our meeting),” he added.

Pursuing the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries over the past year as well as regional and international developments were among other issues discussed by the Iranian and Omani foreign ministers, according to Amirabdollahian.

Since April 2021, several rounds of talks between Iran and the five remaining parties to the JCPOA -Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia- have been held to bring the US back into the Iran deal.

The talks, however, have excluded American diplomats due to their country’s withdrawal from the deal.

On May 1, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani reiterated Tehran’s readiness for the conclusion of negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and the removal of sanctions against Iran, warning the other parties that such a window will not remain open forever.
