Iran-Iraq Sea Passenger Line Launched for Arbaeen Pilgrims: PMO

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director general of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) for Maritime Affairs on Thursday announced the launch of a sea passenger line between Iran and Iraq to serve pilgrims during the Arbaeen season.

The ground has been set for launching 20 voyages for pilgrims during the Arbaeen ceremonies using three vessels per day, Mehdi Farmahini Farahani said.

Facilitation of transit of pilgrims going to Iraq for Arbaeen ceremonies via sea route has been put on the agenda of the organization, he said, adding that it has undertaken the responsibility of launching voyages to Iraqi ports and for this purpose, it has established maritime headquarters at the Khorramshahr Port.

Various expert-level sessions were held in cooperation with the concerned organizations for launching maritime lines between Iranian and Iraqi ports, especially during Arbaeen ceremonies, Farahani stated.

Two ports in Abadan and Khorramshahr were considered for transportation via sea during the Arbaeen season and the latter will be used for transporting pilgrims.
