Iran Red Crescent Bound to Serve Humanity Regardless of Race: Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) highlighted the independent organization’s humanitarian mission to alleviate suffering of people irrespective of their race and nationality, pointing to the relief aid Iran provided for Libya after deadly floods in September.

During a visit to Tasnim’s central office in Tehran on Monday, Pir-Hossein Koulivand said the IRCS personnel are prepared to assist all people across the world, whenever necessary, on humanitarian grounds and regardless of race and nationality.

He noted that the Iranian Red Crescent Society’s assistance to people is not confined to the regional and neighboring nations, such as the relief aid provided for Turkey and Syria after a devastating earthquake in February.

Hailing the Libyan authorities for their close cooperation and coordination with the IRCS for the dispatch of relief aid for the North African nation after fatal flooding in the wake of the catastrophic failures of two dams in Derna on September 10, Koulivand said his forces airlifted 40 tons of flood relief supplies to Libya, including tents, blankets, moquette, hygienic products and foodstuff.

He also noted that the IRCS offered to help Iraq following a fire that killed more than 100 people at a wedding ceremony in the province of Nineveh’s Al-Hamdaniya District on September 26.
