Palestine Lodges Complaint with IAEA over Israel's Nuclear Bomb Threat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki lodged a formal complaint with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) against Israel for threatening to drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza.

A-Maliki wrote to IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi on Wednesday, saying that the nuclear threat is "completely consistent with the prevailing discourse in Israel" against Palestinians, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

He described the threat as "an official recognition that Israel possesses nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction."

Amihai Eliyahu, a member of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, told Israeli media earlier this week that dropping a "nuclear bomb" on Gaza is "an option."

The Israeli regime distanced itself from the remarks, and Eliyahu was suspended from attending ministerial meetings.

The Palestinian top diplomat urged the UN nuclear watchdog and all of its member states to denounce Israel and take action against the possibility of a nuclear attack on Gaza in the letter.

Israel has long refused to publicly acknowledge it possesses nuclear weapons.

Since an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Oct. 7, the Israeli regime has begun a barrage of air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 10,569 Palestinians, including 4,324 children and 2,823 women.
