Iran Attending OIC Summit on Gaza with 2 Proposals
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An informed source provided details of the two main proposals the Iranian team of experts has put forward in advance of a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) about Gaza that will kick off in Riyadh on Saturday.
Heading a delegation, President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi left Tehran for Riyadh on Saturday morning to take part in the extraordinary summit of the OIC about the Israeli regime’s onslaught against Gaza.
The Iranian president will join the OIC heads of state to weigh plans to stop the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestinians, lift the blockade of Gaza, and send humanitarian supplies to people in the besieged enclave.
On Thursday, high-ranking officials held a meeting in Riyadh in preparation for the forthcoming extraordinary summit.
During the preparatory meeting, the delegations representing the OIC members discussed the draft final communiqué that will be submitted to the preparatory Foreign Ministers’ Meeting for consideration and subsequently to the Summit for adoption.
An informed source told Tasnim that the Iranian team has been pursuing two main purposes in the expert negotiations.
Iran’s proposals entail support for Palestine’s legitimate right to defense and organizing a boycott against the Zionist regime.
Iran is reportedly seeking to stabilize Palestine’s legitimate right to defense, like the model that was applied to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. According to the proposal, the Islamic countries will take operational measures and provide arms assistance to Palestine to support its right to defense.
Back in 1992 and amid the Serbian massacre of Muslims in Bosnia, Iran’s proposal resulted in the international recognition of Bosnia’s legitimate right to self-defense. The subsequent arms assistance to Bosnia helped Muslims drive the Serbs back and prevent a wider genocide.
The second proposal made by Iran in the OIC preparatory expert meetings was the imposition of sanctions against Israel by the Islamic and Arab countries, particularly the countries exporting oil to the Zionist regime.
The other main initiatives mooted in the expert meetings included plans for the Muslim and regional states to close their airspace to the Israeli regime and prevent the dispatch of arms from the US bases in the region to the occupied territories.
The crux of the matter is that a number of countries -specifically the oil exporters to Israel such as Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan- have in the expert meetings in Riyadh declined Iran’s proposals and have expressed only verbal condemnation of the Israeli regime’s atrocities.
More than 11,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, when Hamas fighters launched a surprise operation against Israel outside Gaza.
The Israeli regime says 100,000 Palestinians have moved southwards in Gaza in the last two days. Many Palestinians say they remain trapped amid continued fighting.
