Majid Rahimizadeh Named Iran Handball Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Iran youth handball coach Majid Rahimizadeh was named the new head coach of Iran’s senior team.

He replaced Serbian coach Veselin Vujovic, who had been named Team Melli coach in April 2022.

Vujovic was sacked following poor results in the 2022 Asian Games.

As a player, Vujovic competed at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics for the Yugoslavia national team and won a gold and a bronze medal in Los Angeles and Seoul, respectively.

Rahimizadeh will lead Iran at the 2024 Asian Men's Handball Championship, which will be held in Bahrain from January 11 to 25.

Iran has been drawn along with South Korea, China and New Zealand in Group B.
