Iran to Ink Multilateral Trade Agreements with Like-Minded States: Deputy Industry Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s deputy minister of industry, mine and trade said signing bilateral and multilateral agreements in the trade and economic fields with like-minded states is among the main strategies of the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi.

Speaking in the inaugural ceremony of the second edition of the Eurasia EXPO, held at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on Monday, Mehdi Zeyghami stated that conclusion of Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)’s member states has been put on the agenda of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade since 2021.

The exhibition has paved the way for the traders and merchants of different countries to get full familiarity with the economic capacities amd potentials of each other, he further said.

Domestic and foreign companies working in various industrial, mineral and agricultural fields showcase their latest products and achievements at the expo, the deputy minister of industry added.

Specialized seminars and conferences in the fields of transport, banking and monetary issues, trade, scientific, tourism and knowledge-based sectors will be held on the sidelines of the exhibition, he noted.

Earlier, TPOI chief also said that with the conclusion of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union in the first stage and after turning it into a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and the EAEU’s member states will considerably increase.

Iran’s export of products to the EAEU’s member states (mainly Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan) in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to September 22, 2023) has registered an 18 percent growth compared to the same period of last year, Zeyghami noted.

The first edition of Eurasia EXPO was held in Tehran in July 2021 with the participation of high-ranking officials of EAEU’s member states.
