Tunisia Hosts Performance of Zoorkhaneh Sport by Iranian Teenagers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The cultural attaché of the Iranian Embassy in Tunisia announced the performance of Zoorkhaneh or Pahlevani sport by Iranian teenagers in the international arena for the first time.

An expert-level meeting of the Iranian Traditional Theater was held at Tunis Carthage International Theater Festival, Hadi Ajili stated.

The group that participated in the festival comprises teenagers who won first place in an Iranian TV program named “Asr-e-Jadid” and are considered members of the national team of Pahlevani or Zoorkhaneh sport.

Ajili pointed to the showcasing of Zoorkhaneh or Pahlevani sport with the performance of the Iranian teenagers at the festival and noted this is the first time that the sport is performed in the international arena.

The excellent performance of the teenagers in the festival was highly welcomed by the different media outlets of Tunisia, the cultural attaché emphasized.

Pahlevani or zourkhaneh are the name used for varzesh-e pahlavani or varzesh-e Bastani, a traditional system of athletics and a form of martial arts in Iran.
