Iran, Japan to Cooperate on Renovating Old Historical Structures: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The secretary of Iran’s National Habitat Committee (NHC) announced the cooperation between Iran and Japan in the field of recreating urban areas in the historical monuments of the country.

Speaking in an interview with Mehr news agency (MNA), Arman Khorsand pointed to the initiation of cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo for implementing a joint-venture project for reviving the worn-out and old historical urban structures.

In the UN-Habitant Committee, Iran has started cooperation in different areas, he said, adding that Behtab project is a part of the joint-venture project launched between Iran and Japan.

When an earthquake happens, the strength of the building depends on the type of structure used but retrofitting medical equipment is also taken into consideration at hospitals and healthcare treatment centers, the adviser to Iran’s minister of roads and urban development emphasized.

In this regard, the project of retrofitting medical and healthcare treatment centers was carried out at six hospitals in the country, Khorsand said, noting that Ayatollah Tabarsi Hospital in Sari, Mazandaran province, was one of these hospitals which is being retrofitted and will be finished by the first quarter of the next Iranian calendar year (to start March 21, 2024).

The Japanese government enjoys high technical know-how and expertise in the field of retrofitting premises, and Iran can take advantage of the fruitful experience of the East Asian country for the renovation of valuable historical monuments and urban structures, the adviser noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khorsand pointed to the recreation of urban areas and renovation of the dilapidated urban structures and added that an independent delegation from Japan will soon travel to Iran to implement the joint-venture projects, especially in the valuable historical monuments and old city structures.

With the coordination made in this regard, the two countries will share their experiences in the field of recreation of urban areas, he added.
