Iran, Azerbaijan to Open New Transit Route in Days

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Known as the second transit route between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Astara road bridge will open within the next few days to enhance the freight transit capacity and regional connectivity, Iran's minister of roads and urban development announced.

Mehrdad Bazrpash stated that the construction operation of the Astara road bridge at the common border is over and it will be opened in the near future, the ministry’s website reported.

In September 2021, Iran and Azerbaijan Republic officially launched the construction of the highway bridge over the Aras River at the common border, Bazrpash noted.

The Aras road corridor will connect the Eastern Zangazur economic region of Azerbaijan to the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic by passing through Iran’s territory.
