Iran, India Emphasize Expanding Agricultural Cooperation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and India stressed the need to enhance cooperation on balancing the import and export of agricultural products.
The first meeting of the joint agricultural working group was held in New Delhi between Iran’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ahmad Khani Nozari and India’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Pramod Kumar Meherda.
The two sides exchanged views on the import and export of agricultural, horticultural and fishery products between the two countries.
They termed the two countries’ economies as complementary to each other and stressed strengthening cooperation on balancing the import and export of agricultural products, IRNA reported.
Also, the general directors and representatives of different agricultural, horticultural, fisheries and customs organizations of the two countries discussed the capabilities and challenges facing the bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Unification of the import and export tariff of agricultural products between the two countries was the main topic of discussion between the Iranian and Indian officials.
The two sides agreed that the second joint agricultural working group between Iran and India will meet in Tehran in the next few months.
Earlier, the deputy head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) said that a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will be launched between Tehran and New Delhi in line with bolstering cooperation in the field of agriculture.
Iran exported 3.8 million tons of non-oil goods, valued at $1.1 billion, to India in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to September 22, 2023), showing a 68 and 15 percent hike in weight and value respectively compared to last year’s corresponding period, he said.
