Iran Deplores German Support for Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran denounced Germany’s support for the Zionist regime, advising Berlin to focus its efforts on peace in Gaza instead of censuring Tehran’s legitimate operation in retaliation for the Israeli attack on the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic mission in Syria.

In a telephone conversation with his German counterpart on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian denounced Germany’s stances in support of the Israeli regime.

He also expressed hope that the German government would focus on ending the Israeli war on Gaza and establishing sustainable peace and security from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea instead of condemning Iran’s legitimate retaliatory response.

Amirabdollahian explained that the Iranian armed forces carried out a “minimal and accurate” operation against the Israeli regime’s military centers that had been involved in the April 1 airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

“The purpose of the Islamic Republic of Iran was to warn the Israeli regime and make it realize the consequences of crossing the red lines,” he told the German diplomat, cautioning that the Zionist regime’s new acts of adventurism will draw Iran’s “retaliatory, immediate and massive” response.

For her part, Annalena Baerbock stressed the need for closer dialogue amid the current critical juncture.

She said the recent developments have escalated the regional tensions, calling for concerted efforts to prevent the spread of conflicts.

Baerbock also claimed that Germany is trying to put an end to the war on Gaza and pave the way for enduring peace.

Germany is one of the staunchest backers of Israel in its war on Gaza.

While Germany is accused of being complicit in the Israeli genocide in Gaza, Nicaragua wants the International Court of Justice to order Berlin to stop military exports to Israel.

In the case at the top UN court brought by Nicaragua, Germany is facing accusations of aiding genocide in Gaza by selling arms to Israel, whose war has killed more than 33,600 people since October 7.

Germany is also one of Israel’s biggest military suppliers, sending 326.5 million euros ($353.7m) in equipment and weapons in 2023, according to Economy Ministry data.

For years, Germany has declared the security of Israel is at the core of its foreign policy.

On Friday, the police forces in Berlin interrupted and canceled a pro-Palestine conference soon after it started, hours after one of the main speakers said authorities held him up at the airport and prevented him from entering Germany.
