Coronavirus Death Toll in Iran Drops for Fourth Consecutive Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The daily death toll from the novel coronavirus in Iran dropped for the fourth day in a row on Friday, as more than 54,000 positive cases have fully recovered from the disease across the country, the Health Ministry’s spokesman announced.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kianoosh Jahanpoor put the official death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 4,958, saying the disease has taken the lives of only 89 patients over the past 24 hours, down from 92 a day earlier, and marking the lowest number of deaths since more than a month ago.

He also noted that at least 54,064 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from the hospitals across the country.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has risen to 79,494 following the detection of 1,499 new cases since Thursday noon, the spokesman added.

Among the patients undergoing treatment in the medical centers at present, 3,563 ones have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Jahanpoor noted.

He finally stated that 319,879 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 2,192,000 and the death toll has exceeded 147,000.
