Iran’s Parliament Welcomes Collaboration with Neighbors: Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In separate congratulatory messages to his counterparts in ten regional countries on the festive occasion of Nowruz, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf expressed Tehran’s readiness for cooperation with neighbors to ensure peace and development.

In a message at the beginning of spring on Sunday, Qalibaf congratulated his counterparts in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Turkey, and Uzbekistan on the ancient and globally renowned event of Nowruz.

In the message, the speaker said the Iranian Parliament welcomes cooperation and consultations with the purpose of strengthening security and ensuring progress and economic, political and cultural development of the regional and neighboring states.

Qalibaf also hoped that the new year, which begins with Nowruz and the rebirth of nature, would be full of progress, welfare, prosperity, spirituality and justice for all nations.

The Iranian speaker finally expressed confidence that tackling the coronavirus pandemic and resolving the consequent challenges are possible through constructive cooperation and rapport among the governments and parliaments.

In 2010, the UN General Assembly established March 21 as the International Day of Nowruz. The UN also celebrates the International Day of Happiness.

The international Nowruz Day was proclaimed at the initiative of several countries that share this holiday, including Iran, Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
